How to Cut a Pizza (4 Ways)

Cutting a pizza is pretty easy, even though it might look challenging. The best part is, there are plenty of different methods to cut a pizza.

1. Pizza Wheel

A pizza wheel is undeniably the classic option for cutting pizza. Most people already have these in their kitchen arsenals, making it the most straightforward choice. However, keep in mind that you should only use ultra-sharp pizza wheels for the best result.

When using a pizza wheel, it’s best to start slicing the moment the pizza is taken out of the oven. Due to the “wheel” design, there is less chance for the cheese to stick (unlike a traditional knife).

When cutting your pizza, start with a line straight down the middle. Then, add an additional line in the opposite direction (one vertical, one horizontal). From there, you can cut slices as large or small as you prefer.

2. Pizza Rocker

Another top-notch way to cut pizza is using a pizza rocker. If I don’t have my pizza wheel, or it’s dirty, I will rely on a pizza rocker. These are super simple tools that make cutting pizza a breeze. It’s pretty darn fun to use, too.

When cutting a pizza with a pizza rocker, you want to place it down the middle of your pizza. Push down firmly, then rock it back and forth until the pizza is cut in half. Continue slicing the pizza until you’re happy with the number of pieces.

Remember that you might want to wipe down the pizza rocker in-between cutting. This will help to create a more clean-cut appearance. If looks don’t matter and you don’t mind cheese and toppings every which way, don’t worry about cleaning the pizza rocker.

3. Large Knife

Well, I won’t sit here and tell you that a large knife is the best option, but it works – and that’s all that matters when you’re one step away from consuming delicious pizza.

The key with a large knife is to use it somewhat like the pizza rocker. Place it right down the middle and push. Then, rock it back and forth the best you can until it’s sliced.

Depending on the size of your pizza and knife, you might need to break it up into two separate cuts down the middle.

If your knife isn’t big enough or you cannot rock it, you can stick to good old-fashioned cutting. Start with a cut down the middle. Then, cut horizontally to look like a plus sign (+). Continue slicing until you have the desired amount of slices.

Like the pizza rocker, you can clean in-between cuts to have a cleaner appearance.

4. Scissors

Did you know that you can use scissors to cut pizza, too? While I will be honest and say I have never done this, this chef makes it look like fun

Essentially, it’s done in the same way as any other method. Start by scissoring right down the middle, then cut it in half. Start scissoring as many slices as you desire. Pretty easy, right? Who else is going to give this cool pizza-cutting method a try?

FAQs

Now you know some of the best ways to cut a pizza. Want to learn more about this topic? Let’s check out some of these commonly asked questions!

How do you cut a pizza into 6?

Slicing pizza into four, eight, and 12 pieces is pretty simple. But what about six pieces? This is slightly trickier and requires a different method. To cut six slices, cut down the middle. Then form an “X” in the pizza. Viola! Six pieces.

Should pizza be cut?

Yes, but it’s best to ask for it uncut when ordering delivery. Why? Because the pizza will be far less soggy, and the toppings will stay in place like they’re supposed to. Give it a try, and you will immediately notice the difference. (Lifehack, anyone?)

How do you cut a medium pizza?

Size doesn’t really matter when it comes to cutting pizza. You can use the same method, whether it’s small, medium, large, or extra-large. Start down the middle, then cut horizontally. Keep making cuts through the pizza until you have the desired pizza slices.

Do you cut pizza hot or cold?

Hot is typically best unless you’re using a knife or pair of kitchen shears. The knife will cause the ooey-gooey toppings to stick, creating a mess. Cutting when it’s red hot is ideal for pizza wheels and rockers.

Final Words

Cutting pizza isn’t too tricky with the right tool. I suggest a super sharp pizza wheel or a rocker for the best results. However, don’t panic if you need to rely on your trusty kitchen knife or scissors to get the job done.
